COURSE INFORMATION
In this course, students will learn the standards of practice and code of ethics from both the International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA) and the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC).


QUALIFICATION GOALS
Be qualified to apply for staff interpreter positions at hospitals and medical facilities. (Note: Some states may require that medical interpreters earn their accreditation as a CMI or CHI before working professionally.)
Fulfill the 40-hour medical interpreter training pre-requisite to apply for the national medical interpreter exam with either NBCMI or CCHI.
*Students who complete this course will meet the training requirements to work for Liberty Language Services as a freelance medical interpreter.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Students must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. A 4-year or bachelor’s degree is recommended. (Liberty DOES NOT require students to submit a copy of their diploma/degree before enrolling.)
- Students must make full payment or an initial installment before gaining access to the course.
- Students must have a computer and microphone to be able to complete the oral language proficiency tests. The proficiency tests are included in the price of tuition.

OUR INSTRUCTOR
Mr. Abdelkader
Mr. Abdelkader is the Director of our Education Department and is the lead instructor for two medical interpreter training courses: the nationally recognized 40-hour Bridging the Gap (BTG) course and the 48-hour The Community Interpreter: Medical Edition course. In 2012, Sameh delivered the BTG course to over 120 students.
Mr. Abdelkader has over 22 years of experience in education and has brought his skills in management, teaching, training, recruitment, and cultural competency to Liberty Language Services.
Mr. Abdelkader holds a B.A. in English from Zagzig University in Sharkya, Egypt. In addition to being a licensed trainer for BTG and The Community Interpreter: Medical Edition, he is also a licensed trainer for the legal interpreter training course, The Language of Justice. As an educator and member of the IMIA, he adheres to the IMIA Educators Code of Ethics.
